LOVERS OF APADANA

Exhibit open from 6 October to 5 December 2018

This new exhibition showcases a brand new collection by internationally acclaimed artist Bita Ghezelavagh. Using traditional Iranian textiles Ghezelavagh explores the universal themes of love, war and everyday conflicts.

There will be Artist Talks, 12 and 23 November, 6.30pm

SAKBEH CIVILISATIONS SUPPER CLUB

The Arab Hall was inspired by the 12th century interiors of La Zisa palace in Sicily. This evening will explore the fusion of Sicilian and Middle Eastern influences, as expressed through food and song.

OTTOMAN COURT MUSIC

Tuesday 23 October

£12 full price; £9.50 with student discount

Be transported by the wonderful music of Baha Yetkin and Alexandros Koustas, as we explore the traditional Turkish Makams and the rhythms of the Ottoman Court. Musicians will take answers from the floor afterwards.

BARAKAT TRUST LECTURES

Wednesday 14 November, 6.30-8.30pm; 1000 years of Egypt's Ceremonial Tent-making Tradition

Leighton House, in collaboration with the Barakat Trust, welcomes Seif El Rashidi for an exciting talk on this little explored tradition. Discover the stories of this fascinating craft through the voices of its craftsmen and patrons, past and present. Get to handle some of the treasures of this remarkable textile tradition, and immerse yourself in a little-known treasure-trove of Islamic art.

THE HOUSE OF THE YOUNG ROMANTICS; LEIGHTON LATE

We host family activities every month, exploring an array of themes and presenting diverse activities to engage with parents and children alike:

 

PUPPET CREATION 

Saturday 20 October, 2pm-3.30pm

Children £3; FREE for accompanying adult

Expert puppet makers Knuckle and Joint teach with children making their own puppet inspired by the magic of Leighton House.  An afternoon of paint and glitter to bring your creations to life.

SHADOW PUPPET CREATIONS

Saturday 17 November, 2pm-3.30pm

Children £3; FREE for accompanying adult

The fabulous Knuckle and Joint return to conjure up tales from faraway lands as part of Shadow Puppet Creations. Create your own puppet, taking inspiration from the beautiful Arab hall, before coming together to perform.
