Wheelchairs

The NHS wheelchair service is currently provided by AJM Healthcare. The NHS service provides wheelchairs, specialist seating and buggies for children and adults who have a long term condition that affects their mobility. Anyone who thinks they or someone they care for may be eligible for an NHS wheelchair can refer themselves to the service by contacting them directly by phone or email or by talking to their therapist or GP who can make the referral on their behalf.

A clinical assessment will be arranged and a wheelchair or buggy provided that meets the individual’s clinical needs.

During this assessment everyone is offered the option of a accessing a personal wheelchair budget. This allows the person to either upgrade their NHS wheelchair, for example by adding colour or they can choose to go another third party supplier. More information about personal wheelchair budgets is available in our PWB leaflet or from any of our therapists.
