DfE’s new free Early Years Child Development training
The Department for Education (DfE) is launching its new Early Years Child Development training. The course is primarily aimed at:
-
early years practitioners
-
childminders
-
nursery managers
However, the training is available to anyone who may find it useful, including parents and carers.
About the training
The aim of the training is to help practitioners improve their knowledge and understanding of child development. It gives practical advice for supporting children in early years settings.
We are working with early years experts to develop the training. The training builds on the reforms to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. It supports our aims of improving outcomes for children at age 5.
The training combines theory and practical tips. It includes opportunities for practitioners to reflect on their practice and links to extra resources.
During the training, practitioners will be able to:
-
complete 4 child development modules
-
automatically save progress and pause or restart the training at any time
-
complete knowledge checks and end of module tests
-
download certificates of completion for each module
The first 4 modules of the training available now are:
-
Understanding child development and the EYFS
-
Brain development and how children learn
-
Supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development
-
Supporting language development in the early years
Each module should take between 1.5-2 hours to complete.
What’s next?
Over the next few months:
-
more videos will be added to the existing modules
-
new modules – there will be 10 modules in total – will be added over the course of academic year
-
we will continue to develop and improve the training based on sector feedback
Share your feedback
During the private testing period of the training, we have been developing the training content and features. This has been based on invaluable sector feedback.
Users can continue to provide feedback using the feedback form link that is located at the top of each page.
