Bi-Borough SEN Occupational Therapy (OT) Service

Actions

Children's occupational therapy (OT) supports children and young people to participate in and manage the everyday activities they need or want to do at home, school, or in their free time. Everyday tasks could include dressing skills, playing with a group of friends, or managing school work. There are many reasons why some children may find everyday activities challenging and children's occupational therapists can help you understand why and share ideas that may help.

The SEN Occupational Therapists work in the Bi-Borough Inclusion service and see students who have occupational therapy written into 'section F' of their Westminster/RBKC Education, Health and Care Plans. They are a schools-based service for children and young people aged 5-25 and work across mainstream schools, academies and colleges in Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster.

What do our Occupational Therapists do?

The SEN OT team work closely with education, schools and families to ensure the most appropriate OT EHCP provision and support is in place at school and this is reviewed on a regular basis. They also provide specific training sessions throughout the year for education staff and parent coffee mornings and workshops.

They supports educational settings and parents to enhance their understanding of the child’s functional needs and to provide practical strategies to enable OT to be embedded throughout the day, promoting independence and well-being within an inclusive environment.

Please visit our OT Support hub. This includes a range of practical OT strategies, advice and videos for parents/carers, schools and professionals to support children and young people with functional difficulties. You can also access more information about OT services across the Bi Borough, Hammersmith and Fulham and the NHS’s Children and Young People’s OT (CYPOT).

Training

The team offer a variety of practical OT training sessions for settings and parents/carers. This is updated on a termly basis.

As a school-based service, we are unable to support/work with families in the home environment. However, we can offer training for parents/carers on a variety of topics as part of parent coffee mornings in schools, an online and in person parent workshop and we can provide practical strategies and advice for home.
