Relaxed Screening of The Wizard of Oz

Ciné Lumière is showing a relaxed screenig of the Wizard of OZ:

Feeling stuck on a Kansas farm, Dorothy Gale dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow”. When a tornado rages through her hometown, her dream comes true as she is swept away to the magical Land of Oz. Stranded on this mysterious world, her only wish is to return to the safety of her home. Joined by her dog Toto and a band of unlikely friends she made along the way, Dorothy sets out to find the enigmatic Wizard of Oz who seems to be the only one who can take her back home and fulfill the wildest wishes of her new friends

Relaxed Screenings have subtle changes to the cinema environment which mean that people who have sensory difficulties have a more positive experience than they would in a traditional cinema setting.

Changes include:

• The lights being kept on at a low level
• Lower than usual sound levels
• No trailers or advertisements – just the film
• Allowance for increased levels of movement and noise
• Quiet area for people to relax
• Extra signage in the cinema to make the building easier to navigate
• Attendees are free to sit in whichever seat they like and can enter and exit the room at any time
• Staff are trained and ready to assist with any help the audience may need

Our hope is that, as guests with sensory difficulties become more familiar with the cinema environment, at some point they will feel comfortable with attending standard screenings.
We hope through these relaxed screenings to make the cinema going experience accessible for as many people as possible.
