Working Families is the UK’s national charity for working parents and carers. Our mission is to remove the barriers that people with caring responsibilities face in the workplace.

We provide free legal advice to parents and carers on their rights at work. We give employers the tools they need to support their people while creating a flexible, high-performing workforce. And we advocate on behalf of the UK’s 17.5 million working parents and carers, influencing policy through campaigns informed by ground-breaking research.

Working Families provide a free helpline for parents and carers, offering free advice on employment rights for parents and carers and in-work benefits for families. You can also use our online form to ask for advice.

We advise on a range of topics affecting parents and carers at work. Some common examples are:

  • Pregnancy and Maternity Rights

  • Discrimination as a parent/carer

  • Adoption, Paternity and  Shared Parental Leave

  • Flexible Working and Imposed change

  • Emergency and Parental Leave

  • In-work benefits and Tax Credits

  • Free childcare and help with childcare costs

The helpline is open Monday-Friday 11am-2pm (except bank holidays)
