Global Mediation is the organisation contracted by the local authority to deliver mediation advice and support to families of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Parents and young people can go through mediation following decisions made by the local authority such as:
- a decision not to carry out an EHC needs assessment
- a decision not to issue an EHC Plan
- a decision not to amend an EHC Plan
- a decision to cease to maintain an EHC Plan
Mediation offers families and the local authority the opportunity to resolve disgreements informally, without having to go to Tribunal.
Unless your disagreement relates only to the school named in a child / young person's EHCP, you will have to speak to a mediation advisor before you can take a case to the SEND Tribunal.
