Add to shortlist

B.S.L Community has set up a new Parenting service, focused on deaf families. Deaf families can mean deaf parents of hearing children or hearing parents with deaf children. We set up this specialist service to create better parenting through access to information, advice and support. We cover London, Kent, and the South East England area.

We have Parenting Mentors who are either Deaf and/or sign language users, that are trained in parenting, with significant experience of frontline Children and Family work.  They can provide direct support to meet a Deaf family's educational and cultural needs.

We provide the following services:

  • Information, advice and guidance helpline via email.

  • Parenting workshops for Deaf families.

  • One-to-one tailored support for those in need of regular specialist support to improve parenting skills and capacity.Delivered through home visits, contact centres and remotely.  Referrals are usually made by the Local Authority.

  • Deaf Parenting Awareness Training for Service Professionals

  • Deaf family groups and events.
