Health Services and Support for Young People with Learning Disabilities
Free Flu Jabs and COVID-19 Boosters
If you're on your doctor's Learning Disability Register, you can get a free flu vaccine and be invited for COVID-19 booster jabs.
Family carers may also be invited to get their vaccinations too.
Tip: Speak to your GP or local pharmacy for advice about the flu or COVID vaccine.
If you're nervous about vaccinations or find it hard to understand what's happening, your doctor can ask the Learning Disability Health Team to support you.
What is the Learning Disability Register?
The Learning Disability Register is a list your GP keeps of people who have a learning disability. Being on the register helps your doctor understand what support you need and gives you access to:

Free annual health check
If you're 14 or over and on the Learning Disability Register, you're entitled to a free health check once a year at your GP surgery.
You don't need to be unwell to get a check-up. It’s a chance to:

Talk about your health

Pick up on problems early

Get a Health Action Plan to help you stay well
You can bring someone with you to your appointment if you’d like support.
Free prescriptions
If you have a learning disability, you may be eligible for free prescriptions.
Tri-borough learning disabilities team
Once you turn 18, you may be supported by the Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT). This team includes health professionals like nurses and therapists who can help with:

Learning about healthy choices

Meeting others and getting involved in your community
They also help young people who are moving from children’s to adult services.
The NHS Learning Disabilities and Autism Programme
This national NHS programme works to improve health and support for people with:

It supports children, young people, and adults by joining up services and making care better.
NHS continuing healthcare
Some young people with complex health needs may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare, which means the NHS pays for your care.
