Closer to Home

September 2008 - April 2010 Restoration

Between September 2008 and April 2010, Leighton House closed for extensive refurbishment and restoration. This was an important moment in the history of the house; drawing on many period descriptions and extensive physical evidence to reinstate the interiors as Leighton knew them.

The film-maker and photographer Frédérique Cifuentes Morgan was commissioned to record the project from beginning to end. Filmed in the house and in workshops and studios around the country, the film celebrates the work of the conservators and outstanding craft specialists who brought the work to completion.

The award winning project has returned the house closer to Leighton’s vision than at any time over the last hundred years.
