What is the Purple Badge Scheme?

The Government's Blue Badge scheme doesn't apply to central London due to traffic congestion and the high demand for parking space.

Our Purple Badge scheme for disabled residents runs alongside the Blue Badge scheme. This means you will need a:

  • Purple Badge for parking in the borough
  • Blue Badge for parking outside the borough

The badges give national parking concessions for drivers and passengers with severe disabilities. They are issued to people with a physical disability or who are registered as blind, who need to park close to their destination.

To qualify for a Purple Badge you must:

  • hold a Blue Badge
  • live, work or study in the borough

For more information on the Purple Badge scheme and how to apply, visit the page on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea website.
