Health Visiting Teams
Actions
Our health visiting service supports families from 28 weeks of pregnancy until your child starts school or is 5 years old. Health visitors see you at home at around 10–14 days after your baby is born, offering advice and support for you and your baby. You will be invited to child health clinics, where you can check your baby’s weight and talk about their health, development and any concerns you may have
We run sessions in family hubs, children’s centres and local health centres, so you have easy access to the health visiting team. The first 1,001 days (from pregnancy until your child’s 2nd birthday) are especially important for your child’s growth, development and future health. We are here to support you in giving them the best start in life.
Emotional health and wellbeing
It is not uncommon for parents to find the transition into parenthood challenging. There may be emotional difficulties, anxiety or low mood with the arrival of a new baby. Health visitors can see you at home to explore your emotional health and wellbeing further. They can offer you further support, and with your consent refer you to our specialist health visitor in perinatal mental health, your GP or other specialist perinatal mental health services. Further information can be found on these pages:
or speak to a member of the health visiting team directly by calling 020 8200 2500 (option 2).
Infant Feeding Support
Health visiting staff undertake the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Breastfeeding training and can provide you as parents or carers with evidence-based information and practical support to help you achieve your infant feeding goals. How you feed your baby is a personal choice and we are here to support you and your baby with whatever feeding choices you make and at any stage. This includes providing support and information about breastfeeding, mixed feeding, formula feeding and introducing solids at 6 months.

Health and Development Reviews
These routine reviews take place when your baby is between 9 and 12 months old and when your child is aged 2 to 2 ½ years. We also offer 4 months reviews for parents requiring additional support and first-time parents.
You will receive the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) to complete and bring with your child to the appointment. As part of the assessment, an experienced member of the health visiting team will review the questionnaire and assess your child. This will enable you as a parent or carer to understand if your child is meeting their developmental milestones in the following areas:
- Gross Motor
- Fine Motor
- Personal/Social
- Communication
- Problem Solving
The developmental reviews take place at important stages in your child’s life where emerging concerns such as speech and language delay, behavioural issues or other issues can be identified. The health visiting team can work with you to provide help and support. Early identification and intervention are key for improving outcomes and school readiness for your child.
Please call us on 020 8200 2500 (option 2) or email us at [email protected] if you have not received an appointment for your child’s developmental review.
Parents can access the health visiting service Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm for support and advice using the contact details above.

SEND Specialist Health Visiting Lead Role
We have established SEND Specialist Health Visiting Lead role to strengthen support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families. This role has focused on equipping the Integrated Health Visiting team (Family Hub Practitioners and Health Visiting service) with specialised knowledge and resources, increasing collaboration across services, and building a solid foundation for early identification and intervention.
The role provides strategic oversight for all children aged 0–5 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families within the Bi-Borough Health Visiting Service. The role strengthens links between health visiting, early years settings, parent support groups, and wider SEND services, ensuring coordinated and effective support. The role leads on SEND-related issues within the Health Visiting team, reviewing practice, identifying gaps, and embedding evidence-based approaches to drive service improvements. The role delivers training and supervision to health professionals across the 0–5 Public Health Teams and 0–5 Family Hubs, equipping staff with the skills to provide high-quality care. Working closely with families, professionals, and voluntary organisations, the role promotes a person-centred, multi-agency approach while ensuring the Health Visiting service remains compliant with SEND standards and continuously works towards delivering improved care and support for SEND children and their families.
