Description: Pair of houses, forming part of The Boltons planned layout. Laid out by George Godwin, Editor of "The Builder" (1815-88) at the end of 1840's. 1849-59. Nicely planned area on an ellipse. These houses show a reaction from classical restraint and they exemplify the taste of the period which is not Gothic. The plan and the scale is unique In London. Mostly semi-detached pairs. Brick faced in stucco. Three storeys and basement. Ground floor Is heavily rusticated with vermiculated quoins. Porches are Doric. Continuous balustraded balcony on first floor. First floor windows have enriched architraves, consoles, and entablatures. Projecting eaves cornices. "Early Victorian Architecture in Britain" by Prof. H R Hitchcock Vol. I p 441.
