Description: Dissenters' Chapel and catacombs. 1831-34. By John Griffith, Surveyor to the General Cemetery Company. Portland stone, rendered brick walls. Ionic tetrastyle portico with pediment, flanked by curving three-bay wings with paired pilasters to front and twin Ionic columns in antis to ends; memorial tablets on walls of wings. Interior: east wall articulated with pilasters; pine reading desk and pews. Modern single-storey extension to rear of north wing. Catacombs (partly sealed) below the chapel. History: the first purpose-built Nonconformist funerary chapel in a public cemetery. The wings were demolished in the early 19705 and reinstated in 1995-97 by English Heritage: see The Architects' Journal 9th April 1998,40-41.
