Description: | Pair of houses c1863-4. C Grey architect. Late C19. Polychrome, brick with stone dressings and stucco ornamentation, and Italianate Ruskinian features. Each two to three windows wide. Immensely overhanging eaves cornice with enriched brackets and ,coloured tile inlay surmounted by ornamental chimney stacks. Four storeys and basement. Arched entrances in advanced porches. First floor windows with rope moulded arches and carved capitals. Windows on upper floors are grouped in threes with arched polychromed heads divided by pilasters, curved caps and archivolts. On third floor a string course emphasised by twisted rope motif. First floor balcony with Gothic iron balustrades. Survey of London Vol 38. |
