Description: | House with sculptor's studio. 1869-70. Designed by F P Cockerell. Red brick; Portland stone dressings; slated mansard roof to parapet. Irregular plan on corner site. 3 storeys plus basement and dormered attic. Facade splayed to corner, with irregular fenestration; 3 bays facing north, 1 main bay to splayed section and single bay to left return with main entrance. Round headed entrance with sculptured architrave and springing. Further entrance in Doric porch to north facade. Square headed architraved windows, from 1 to 4 lights, some with stone mullions and transoms. Projecting mullioned bay window to north facade with curved glass top-light. Sashed windows. Dutch gabled dormer to attic flanked by round headed dormers. Prominent semicircular chimney to corner. Interior features including octagonal porch, staircase with cast iron balustrade, apsed studio to first floor; plasterwork �sgraffito� decoration to east porch, etc. Built for the sculptor Reginald Cholmondeley. ****DELETED 28.10.86**** |
