Description: | Former car factory. 1903-4 for Clement Talbot Company. English bond red brick with dentilled eaves; tile roof to North - lit multi-gabled roof. One storey; 12 x 15 bays. Central 4-entry to centre. Round windows to side gables. Interior: cast iron piers to wrought-iron trusses. Built as one of Britain's earliest car factories for a syndicate established to import Clement cars from France; construction was supervised by Charles Garrard who had worked with Adolphe Clement in France and the factory was built to a revolutionary design in that it housed a"flexible shop" system where one building was used for various purposes |
