King's Road is My Catwalk

This exhibition of photographs, captured by John Hendy and curated by historian Ian Foster, showcases life on the King's Road, Chelsea 1967-1973. Hendy's distinct style pays homage to street photography shot on the King's Road going back to the early days of modern photography in the late 19th century.

Formerly an ancient footpath, the King's Road was a private royal road that passed through Chelsea during the time of Charles II, used for travel between his palaces at Whitehall and Hampton Court. Over time, the King's Road evolved into one of the world's most famous thoroughfares.

This exhibition features images of people on the King's Road during the heyday of the Swinging Sixties and early 1970s when followers of fashion created a daily fashion parade as they came to shop at groovy boutiques and watch the world go by from sidewalk cafes.
