New pilot scheme for private sector landlords and managing agents

The Community Safety Team have launched a new pilot programme called the Smarter Safer Secure Homes which will provide specific and bespoke crime prevention advice for private sector landlord and managing agents on their properties. It will offer a full inspection of the property and a Crime Prevention Specification based on findings. Once the security enhancements are put in place and the good practice document and guidance for existing and new tenants explained, landlords will receive a Smarter Safer Secure Homes Project completion certificate.

The overall aim of the project is to reduce the number of residential burglaries in Kensington and Chelsea. This will be achieved by installing enhanced security at the property that landlords are responsible for and will make it more difficult for a burglary to occur. These benefits will be passed down to tenants who will ultimately feel safe and secure in their rented accommodation.

The Smarter Safer Secure Homes Project is a discretionary pilot programme and is on a voluntary application process. It is not a mandatory or statutory scheme that private sector landlords or managing agents must join. However, we would encourage landlords to take this opportunity to get involved with this project with the added knowledge that by doing so, you are contributing to the overall reduction of residential burglary in Kensington and Chelsea.
