Childcare needs of communities affected by the Grenfell tragedy

Childcare needs ofcommunities affected by the Grenfell tragedy

At its October meeting, the Family Services Select Committee set up a working group to review the childcare needs of the communities affected by the Grenfell tragedy and how these needs were being met.

Working group members are currently researching and reviewing the childcare needs of (and support that can be offered to) young families in the communities affected by the tragedy –specifically, those living on the Lancaster West Estate and its surrounding area but also including other communities affected based nearby in North Kensington.

The review would consider the childcare needs of families with children under five years of age, children who might have been affected directly by the fire or who might have been born subsequently to parents affected.

Drop-in event

If you care for children under five years old and live in the North Kensington area, come and discuss your views and concerns on childcare with scrutiny members.

  • date: Tuesday 3 March, 4pm - 6pm
  • place: St Francis of Assisi Primary School, Treadgold St, Notting Hill, W11 4BJ

Help shape scrutiny’s recommendations on Childcare in the Grenfell Community.

Share your childcare experiences

The Working Group is launching a Call for Evidence to invite interested parents of young families, carers of young children, relevant professionals and stakeholders in the Lancaster West Estate and surrounding areas, including other communities affected based nearby in North Kensington, to present their experiences of childcare in the area.

If you have or if you care for children under five years old and live in the North Kensington area, the Select Committee welcomes any information you can provide to inform the review. We would particularly like to know:

  • Does the current childcare offer in the area cover your needs?
  • What are the main issues that you face in relation to childcare?
  • Have you received any help to access childcare?
  • How could the offer be improved?
  • How to respond

Please send your responses by Friday 28 February 2020 to [email protected] and write ‘Childcare experience submission’ in the subject line. Please also state clearly who the submission is from (whether from yourself in a personal capacity or sent on behalf of an organisation).

If you are unable to use email, please post your responses to:
