What to do if you cannot afford to pay Council Tax?

If you are having difficulty paying your Council Tax you may be able to get money off your bill. Check your eligibility using our benefits calculator. If you have already applied and are waiting on a decision, please be aware your Council Tax remains payable until a decision has been made. You can check the progress of your claim by speaking to the Benefits team on 020 7361 3005.

If you are not eligible for a Council Tax Reduction we still may be able to help. You may be able to pay over an additional two instalments, reducing the amount you pay monthly, by setting up a Direct Debit.

Setting up a Direct Debit also allows you to change your payment date to better fit around when you are paid, payments are made automatically so bills are not forgotten. You can choose from 7, 15, 21 and 28.
