Animal warden services

Our animal warden service provides information for dog and other animal owners in the borough. They will also collect stray dogs that are contained in a secure location.

Finding a dog

If the dog is confined in a secure location please call 03444 828 346 to arrange collection.

Finding a stray dog

If a dog is confined in a secure location they will often be picked up by our dog wardens and taken to a holding kennel. You can view stray dogs that have recently been collected on the Lost dogs website.

If you think your dog has been collected

You should call 03444 828 342 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Sunday, to arrange a collection (calls to this number are standard rate and mobile-friendly).

Dog collection fees

The fee for collection your dog is £25 plus £17 for each day that the dog is kennelled. An additional £25 is payable if a dog in not micro-chipped or incorrectly micro-chipped.

Dogs are only held for the statutory seven-day period. Fees are only reduced or waived in the most exceptional cases. If you wish to discuss this please call the dog warden manager.  Fees must be paid before a dog can be collected.

You will need to provide proof of address in order to collect your dog (such as a recent utility bill). If you would like a warden to return your dog to you from the kennels, an additional charge of £25 will be payable.

Lost dogs and cats

If you have lost your dog or cat you can call the lost line at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. See the Battersea website for details,  or for lost dogs that have been collected by our contractor, SDK, please visit Lost Dogs UK website.

Dead cats collected by the council’s street cleansing contractors

Operatives from SDK Environmental Limited will on request attend the council depot and scan for microchip implants. Where a chip is found, they will utilise their company PIN code to obtain (where possible) the owner's recorded details. They will then advise the client accordingly so that the owner can be notified.
