Dog warden services
Our dog warden service provides information for dog owners in the borough. They will also collect stray dogs that are contained in a secure location.
Finding a stray dog
If you have found a stray dog and it is confined in a secure location, telephone 03444 828 320 to arrange collection. The warden will collect the dog and it will be taken to a safe holding kennel (operational seven days a week, 24 hours a day).
If you think your dog has been collected
If you have lost your dog and think that we may have collected it:
- visit the Lost Dogs website and click on the link for Royal Borough of Kensington.
- telephone the supplementary dedicated lost dog claim line: 03444 828 300, operational seven days a week, 8:30am to 5pm. This claim line number is reserved for dog owners who have identified their dog on our website and wish to arrange its return. You will be required to provide proof of ownership and proof of address and to pay the fees outlined below
Dog collection fees
The fee for collection your dog is £25 plus £17 for each day that the dog is kennelled. An additional £25 is payable if a dog in not micro-chipped or incorrectly micro-chipped.
Dogs are only held for the statutory seven-day period. Fees are only reduced or waived in the most exceptional cases. If you wish to discuss this, contact us, (see below). Fees must be paid before a dog can be collected.
In order to collect your dog, you will need to provide proof of address, such as a recent utility bill. If you would like a warden to return your dog to you from the kennels, an additional charge of £25 will be payable.

Dead cats
If our street cleansing contractors, SDK Environmental Limited, find a dead cat, they arrange for the cat to be scanned for a microchip. If a chip is found, they will obtain, where possible, the owner's recorded details. The council will be notified so that the owner can be notified.
Owners who are contacted will be given the option to collect their cat. Alternatively, the council can arrange appropriate disposal.
