Suicide prevention

Raising awareness of suicide and its impact on communities.

Welcome to our dedicated suicide prevention resource. We want to raise awareness of suicide and its impact on communities. Here, you’ll find practical information on the support that’s available locally in Kensington and Chelsea, as well as nationally.

If you are struggling with mental health and require urgent help, please call 999 or, if possible, seek support at your local A&E.

Samaritans also offer 24-hour support by phone (116 123) or email.

You can text SHOUT to 85258 or visit the SHOUT website for confidential, anonymous 24-hour support.

Our suicide prevention strategy

The Suicide Prevention Strategy for Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster (2022-2025) is a three-year plan. The aim is to prevent suicide in our communities and offer support to those impacted by it.

How we will deliver this strategy

The strategy highlights the importance of working together with local voluntary and community organisations, Central North West London NHS (CNWL) and council front-line services. We also want to ensure that residents are at the centre of the decision-making.

We aim to carry out evidence-based measures across eight priority areas over the next three years through our Suicide Prevention Action Plan.

Our eight priority areas include:

  • making our community safer by raising awareness of suicide
  • reducing suicide in key high-risk groups
  • reducing the risk of self-harm
  • supporting good mental health and wellbeing
  • improving access to services
  • services for those bereaved or affected by suicide
  • addressing stigma and promoting sensitive approaches to suicide
  • collecting data to improve key services
