Temporary traffic orders
You need to apply for a temporary traffic order if you want to:
- close most roads and footways within the borough
- impose a prohibited turn or access or exit of a road
- suspend bus or cycle lanes
A temporary traffic order for a footway closure will only be needed where it is being closed for an extended period of time. Short duration works or operations lasting 20mins which can be managed by holding pedestrians intermittently and then re-opening the footway to allow pedestrians to continue their journey will not require a temporary order.
We will only grant a temporary traffic order once we are satisfied all other traffic management options have been considered and that closing the road is the only way to safely let your planned activity take place. All traffic management arranges must be in accordance with the Safety at Street and Road Works Code of Practice. Information for assistance with planning the traffic management of your works area
