Local resident gets stuck in!

Published: Tuesday 10 December 2024

The extensive transformation of the Silchester Estate started earlier this year and is making great progress. We are investing £40 million into upgrading the tower blocks on the estate and making sure our residents are in safe and comfortable homes fit for the future.

Helping us deliver these much-needed improvements are, Equans (our contractor). They set themselves up on the estate earlier this year and have been getting stuck in and getting to know our residents as well as carrying out the early stages of the work. A vital part of their agreement with us involves investing money into the local community. This is known as a series of social value commitments.

One of the ways to do this is to provide employment and training opportunities for local residents and in this case one of the residents living on the Silchester Estate was able to benefit from the opportunity!

Mohammed joined the project team in August and took on an exciting role as Apprentice Resident Liaison Officer (RLO). He has settled in well to life working on a busy and varied project and told us:

I am really enjoying working for Equans. My team are very friendly and welcoming. I'm learning a lot and I'm very grateful for this opportunity.

So far he has had the chance to shadow other officers to understand what the day-to-day life of an RLO consists of and he has also been vital in enabling the team to speak to residents, delivering letters, booking appointments and making phone calls, as everyone loves a familiar face!
