Christmas is coming to Portobello with pop up festive markets on the first three Sundays in December, with the first taking place just after Small Business Saturday on 6 December.
The markets, which will also run on 13 and 20 December, will be spread out along Portobello Road from the corner of Elgin Crescent to Cambridge Gardens and open from 10am to 5pm.
Following the easing of national restrictions on Wednesday 2 December, traders will now be able to open their stalls with a range of goods, from gifts, to clothes and antiques. Visitors can also find a range of street food and drink on offer to enjoy, including mulled wine and mince pies.
Organised in partnership between Kensington and Chelsea Council, Portobello Green Market and the Westway Trust, the event will be one of the only festive markets taking place in the capital, after many were cancelled earlier this year.
Lead Member for Economy, Employment and Innovation, Cllr Catherine Faulks said:
“The first market on 6 December coming just a day after Small Business Saturday means we can have a whole weekend dedicated to shopping local to protect our independent traders. Many traders have been unable to operate their stalls for the last month under national restrictions, so this is the perfect time to get out and support small businesses.
“There are so many amazing gifts and products to discover, we hope that visitors enjoy the festive spirit after a difficult year and importantly take care to shop safely.”

“We are pleased to be able to provide some extra Christmas cheer for local residents and many long term Portobello businesses. We look forward to helping the traders and to providing a safe outdoor shopping experience. A range of Covid-secure measures will be in place including the road closure to traffic allowing for greater space to social distance with market stewards on hand to support. Please remember your masks, and to use hand sanitiser stations located in and around Portobello Green Market.
“The Portobello Market will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout December.”
