Applications are open now for six weeks to fund your next community project. Projects should focus on improving physical infrastructure which benefits your local community, supporting the Council’s ambitions for a greener, safer and fairer borough. Whether your community is looking to fund a local gardening project, spruce up a local community facility or introduce some extra CCTV or traffic calming measures – there are plenty of options.
Funding is available through the Neighbourhood community Infrastructure levy and you can apply online.
What is the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL)?
New developments pay a levy in the borough to support local infrastructure. A proportion of this funding is set aside as Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy, to be spent on things that the local community has deemed important to them.
What kinds of projects does NCIL fund?
In Kensington and Chelsea you can get your project funded where it helps local air quality, community safety and policing resources, streetscape and public realm, parks and open spaces. These priorities were set in 2020 after consultation with residents.
In the last four years, 224 projects have received funding, ranging from cycle parking and planters to CCTV and traffic calming measures. You can see a full list via our NCIL story map.
Getting help with your application
Council staff will be on hand to help you with applications at drop in sessions in our libraries during April. Learn about which kinds of projects can be funded through NCIL, get help with the application process and with understanding the assessment criteria.
If you have an idea for a project, the team will be able to provide feedback which might help to strengthen your application and help you with filling in the application form.
No need to book, just pop in to one of our NCIL drop ins:
- Tuesday 15 April, 2pm to 4pm, North Kensington Library
- Thursday 17 April, 2pm to 4pm, Chelsea Library
- Wednesday 23 April, 10am to 12pm, Kensington Central Library
What happens after you apply?
All applications are assessed to make sure they meet the assessment criteria. Projects are then considered by ward councillors who make the ultimate decision on funding. Visit our planning consultations pages to make your application.
