Households across Kensington and Chelsea will soon be asked to take part in Census Day 2021.

As the census only comes around every 10 years, now is your chance to mark your place in history within a long-lasting record that future generations can find.

It will be the first census run predominantly online, with households receiving a letter with a unique access code, allowing them to easily complete the questionnaire on their computers, phones or tablets and paper copies will also be available.

The census gives us the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941.

Cllr Anne Cyron, Lead Member for Communities, said: “We encourage everyone to fill out the census, it’s quick and easy and really helps to shape the services and funding allocated to your local community. This could be everything from doctors’ surgeries and schools to new bus stops, your entry could really make a difference in your area. You also may be the first in your family to do it, so the census is a great way for future generations to find out about your life today.”

Census Day will be on Sunday 21 March 2021, but households across the country will receive letters with online codes allowing them to take part from early March.  The Office for National Statistics (ONS) carries out the census and only ever publish anonymous information from it. The information you share cannot be used to influence benefit claims, immigration status or your taxes. In fact, personal records will be locked away for 100 years, kept safe for future generations.
