Chelsea Old Town Hall – temporary closure

Lighting and heating has now been repaired and is working, so ceremonies and events planned for this weekend can go ahead, though the library remains closed.

Chelsea Old Town is currently closed following an electrical incident and expected to remain closed this weekend (Friday 31 January to Sunday 2 February).

London Fire Brigade attended and have now left the scene. Electrical safety checks are ongoing and the building is being ventilated.

The following services are impacted while the building is closed:

  • Registrars
  • Events and conferences
  • Chelsea library
  • Citizens Advice Bureau.

Registrars will directly contact anyone who has a wedding ceremony, birth registration appointment, citizenship ceremony or notice appointment scheduled today to advise on options.

If you need to urgently register a death, please report to Kensington Town Hall.

Chelsea sports centre has reopened and is operating as normal.
