Decide which North Kensington community projects receive funding

Published: Thursday 17 February 2022

The Main Application stage for the Grenfell Projects Fund 2 has now closed and we want North Kensington residents to help us decide which projects receive funding.

The second round of the Fund, which has attracted around 70 Main Applications, will allocate £600k to a selection of local community projects, with an additional £600k available to experienced providers who have the potential to deliver projects for a longer period.

This year, a Resident-led Panel has been working very hard to help shape the Fund and has decided to move the public vote online. Between Monday 21 February and Sunday 6 March 2022, North Kensington residents will be invited to view and score video presentations from each applicant on a new voting platform. These scores will then be added to scores provided by the Resident-led Panel and the Council’s Grenfell Community Team to decide how the funding is distributed.

Soledad Morado Rodriguez, who is a member of the Panel and a North Kensington resident, said: “We’re glad the Resident-led Panel has been involved in the Grenfell Projects Fund 2 process because, as residents ourselves, the projects that get put through will affect us and our community directly so it’s important that we have a voice.

“We also want to encourage other North Kensington residents to get involved in the voting process as they have the right to vote for how this money is allocated and we want them to have a say in the projects that best meet their needs.”

In the first round of the Fund, residents helped to allocate £678k across 56 projects that brought a range of benefits to the North Kensington community, including free wellbeing workshops and exercise classes.

Robert Pereno was awarded £5k to deliver a plant to every home on the Lancaster West Estate to open up conversations about environmental issues in the community and encourage social interaction.

Robert said: “The Grenfell Projects Fund has allowed the community to unite and there are so many great projects that I’m hearing about.
“It’s really important that the residents of North Kensington get involved because your vote matters.”
