Findings from our survey on North Ken News

Published: Monday 21 February 2022

Following the decision to make North Ken News bi-monthly, we wanted to understand more about how often residents read the newsletter and how they thought it could be improved.

A survey was sent out with the December edition of the newsletter and was also hosted online. We were really encouraged by the positive feedback shared by residents and want to thank all those who took the time to reach out.

You can read the full report on the survey, alongside a summary of our findings.

What did we learn?

  • Almost three quarters of respondents told us they read North Ken News every month. One in 10 told us they read it every two to three months. Eight per cent told us they never read North Ken News.
  • Those who didn’t read the newsletter often or at all told us they weren’t interested in the stories, that they were too busy to read the newsletter or that they just flicked through it occasionally. A small number of people said they had occasional issues receiving the newsletter and that it wasn’t always delivered to them.
  • The content readers enjoyed most were stories focusing on local and community news, followed closely by updates on Council services and local events. We heard that 61 per cent of readers wanted to see more community news and information about what’s going on in North Kensington.
  • Fifty people told us they had no substantial suggestions and that they broadly thought the newsletter was good, while 12 people said they thought the layout and design could be improved.

What will we do?

There were some recurring themes in the responses we received. We’re keen to act on these to keep improving the newsletter, so in upcoming editions we will aim to balance out the number of Council updates with content generated by the community, which will focus more on residents, community initiatives/projects, and local history/areas of interest.

We’ll also be extending our content call-out list to seek-out content covering as much of North Kensington as possible, and to generate stories that cover a broader range of interests.

To ensure the newsletter uses the page space while remaining easy and enjoyable to read, we’ll work with our designers to refresh the newsletter’s look and feel.

We’ll be discussing any potential delivery issues with our distribution team to explore why a small number of residents reported not receiving the newsletter.

Get involved

Residents make North Ken News what it is. We rely on hearing from you and from local community groups and organisations to produce a newsletter that’s informative and interesting. If you have an interesting event, activity, story or comment that would be suitable for the newsletter, why not reach out and share it with us?

The best stories will be of interest to a broad number of people and should be relevant to the North Kensington area. If your story has good quality pictures to support it, even better. You can share stories on a one-off basis, or ask to be added to our content call-out so you never miss the chance to share.
