Grenfell learnings inspire plans for exemplary housing service

The learnings from the Grenfell tragedy will be used to develop a caring and competent housing service providing a greater choice of safe, settled homes for Kensington and Chelsea residents.

The Council’s draft Housing Strategy 2025-2030 focuses on listening to and involving residents to deliver an exemplary housing and landlord service while providing safe housing that meets the Decent Homes Standard.

It also proposes to diversify the supply of housing, including new builds, accessible properties and different types of rented homes, and support people into home ownership as the Council works to reduce the demand for social housing and temporary accommodation and help more residents into settled homes.

Feedback from thousands of bereaved, survivors and residents about their experiences of accessing the borough’s services and living in its homes has shaped the draft Strategy, which is open for consultation until Tuesday 13 May 2025.

Cllr Sof McVeigh, Lead Member for Housing, said:

“A safe, settled home is a foundation from which people can achieve their ambitions, and this strategy is focused on unlocking that potential for as many residents as possible.

“The demand for homes has never been higher, so we will be looking at new forms of housing, particularly to help residents escape the misery of homelessness and temporary accommodation. We’re also investing £700 million over ten years to make our residents’ homes warmer and safer.

“The learnings from Grenfell underpin and inspire everything we want to achieve and I want to thank all of the bereaved, survivors and residents for their invaluable feedback. We will use what you have told us to develop an excellent housing service that is a fitting legacy to the tragedy.”

The draft Housing Strategy 2025/2030 is open for consultation from Wednesday 19 March 2025 until Tuesday 13 May 2025. To find out more and share your views, visit the consultation homepage.
