Lead member for planning, place and environment, Cllr Johnny Thalassites said:

“We need to work together to protect the environment through greener buildings, cleaner transport and minimising waste.

“Climate change and poor air quality impacts all of us - we all benefit from a healthy environment. We want to hear from residents and businesses on our new goals so we confidently make changes for the better working with our community.”

The new Air Quality Action plan sets out to meet the National Air Quality Objectives. This will be implemented through projects such as an active travel scheme and removing parking bays to accommodate Al Fresco dining.

The new Climate Emergency Action Plan is focused on building energy-efficient homes, encouraging sustainable transport and travel and reducing waste.

The new Biodiversity Action Plan aims to protect and enhance the boroughs natural habitats and wildlife. The council will continue expanding the Bee Superhighway.

These new action plans support the councils 2019 Green Plan which includes aims to see the council go carbon neutral by 2030.
