Kensington and Chelsea Council has helped more than 12,500 residents with a £50 low-income support payment to help with the cost of living.
Now in its second year, the Low-income Support Scheme has provided financial support to those who need it the most and helped low-income families with food, household bills, travel and clothing costs.
Since June 2025, low-income support payments totalling nearly £628,000 have been made to eligible residents who receive Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and/or Universal Credit Housing Allowance.
In a recent survey, residents who received the payment were asked how they used the £50 payment and how it benefited them. Over 400 people responded to the survey and feedback showed that most recipients spent the £50 to cover groceries and utility bills.
Cllr Cem Kemahli, lead member for finance said:
“We recognise that families are still feeling the impact of the rising cost of living and this £600,000 financial support was set aside to help residents who need it the most with household bills and costs."
Zoe Phillips, a resident in the borough said:
“The £50 low-income support was hugely welcome, so thank you RBKC. I really appreciated it.”
