The Council is partnering with OurBike to offer a practical, low-emission alternative to car and van journeys for families, community groups and local businesses.

The bike can be hired via the OurBike app, with residents getting an hour’s use free when they sign up and businesses able to trial the bike for up to three free hours. After that, the bike can be hired for £5 an hour, in 15-minute increments.

How do you use the e-cargo bike?

Getting started is easy:

●    Download the OurBike app
●    Register with a photo ID
●    Book and ride from the SPACE location

Where is the e-cargo bike based?

The e-cargo bike will be hosted and maintained by local organisation The SPACE, on Freston Road, where it is kept secure, charged, and ready for use. The service uses a back-to-base model, meaning it starts and ends at the same designated location.

Cllr Johnny Thalassites, lead member for environment and planning at Kensington and Chelsea Council, said:

“You often see e-cargo bikes being used by companies in the private sector as a fast, efficient and environmentally friendly way to make deliveries, so why not offer that to our residents and community too? It’s a good opportunity for local businesses to try it out and see if it works for their businesses in North Kensington, but it’s also a great option for a resident if you’re dropping a present off with a friend, or delivering something you’ve sold or donated to a neighbour.”

Emma Hughes, Head of Business Development at Peddle My Wheels & OurBike, said:

“This launch brings together climate action, local enterprise and community mobility in a way that’s simple, practical and visible on the street.

“We’re excited to see the borough join the wider London network and look forward to working with The SPACE and RBKC to grow local access.”

Samia Badani, CEO of The SPACE, said:

“Hosting the e-cargo bike at The SPACE is a powerful extension of the support we already offer across Kensington and Chelsea. For families using our Baby Bank and for vulnerable adults who rely on us, it means we can deliver essential items faster, more efficiently, and without adding to traffic or pollution. This is about making sustainable transport work for real people, improving lives while also protecting the environment. We’re proud to be part of something that brings practical, visible change to our communities.”

The SPACE plans to use the e-cargo bike for a range of community initiatives, including delivering not just fresh food but household essentials from its Baby Bank and wider support programmes. By expanding its delivery capacity, The SPACE will be able to reach more vulnerable adults and families and respond faster to urgent needs.

This e-cargo bike initiative is made possible through the Future Neighbourhoods 2030 programme, which supports local projects tackling climate change and inequality. The Notting Dale neighbourhood has been identified as a priority area for investment in active travel and sustainable transport.

The scheme is part of a growing network of OurBike locations across London – this will be the 55th bike in the capital.
