A new free outdoor gym in Kensington Memorial Park was officially opened on Saturday 20 August.  Residents and visitors were able to test out the new equipment and trainers from the Council’s leisure centres were on hand to show how the equipment can be used.  There are also instruction panels with QR codes for each piece of equipment that take you to films of how the use them.

The gym is part of the Council’s ongoing investment and support for people following on from the pandemic and in dealing with the current cost-of-living crisis and comes two weeks after a new outdoor gym was opened in Avondale Park.

Cllr Emma Will, Lead Member for Leisure, said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to open a third gym in our parks this year.  I know many of our residents enjoy our parks and this is a wonderful way to get fitter after all the challenges of the last couple of years.”

The new gym was created in response to feedback from the community about wanting a gym in the park.  The Council then consulted with residents and 64 per cent supported the new gym proposals.  The gym includes both resistance and cardiovascular equipment and is designed to be used by people of different abilities, including older and some with disabilities.
