A new health centre designed around the needs of residents has opened today at Kelso Cochrane House in North Kensington.

This marks a major milestone in our commitment to delivering essential community facilities alongside new homes.

The opening of Golborne Canalside Health Centre (formerly Golborne Medical West10 GPs) follows years of collaborative work between the Council, NHS partners and the local community to create a modern healthcare facility that not only expands access to medical services but also promotes wellbeing and prevention.

The new centre is being relocated from its current Golborne Road location to Kensal Road and forms part of the Kelso Cochrane House development, which has already delivered 38 much-needed new homes for Council tenants and key workers. Following feedback from residents, we committed to re-providing community facilities as part of the development.

Designed with patients at heart

Every aspect of the building has been co-designed by local patients, creating a calm and welcoming environment that supports wellbeing from the moment patients arrive.

Patient artwork by local artist Cordelia Cembrowicz, is displayed throughout the centre, helping create a sense of ownership and community, while a green moss wall has been incorporated into the design to enhance biodiversity and add to the tranquil atmosphere of the building.

The centre includes a dedicated community space, the Village Square, complete with its own kitchenette that will host exercise classes, coffee mornings and events to support residents' health and wellbeing.

Expanding healthcare services

In keeping with the NHS Neighbourhood model of health, the move allows more patients to access care closer to home. With current patient trust rating of 99 per cent, patients will now benefit from an increased number of permanent GPs alongside its wider multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, health coaches and specialist NHS staff.

Supporting prevention and healthier lives

Known for innovation as a Teaching and Training practice, one of the key features of the new centre is its easy access self-monitoring health zone, where patients can take a more active role in managing their health.

The space will allow residents to check important health indicators such as blood pressure, weight and body composition, helping identify potential health concerns earlier and supporting the prevention of long-term conditions before they develop, aligned to the team's holistic approach.

By making health monitoring more accessible, the centre aims to empower patients to better understand and manage their own wellbeing.

Bringing health and employment support together
Recognising the important connection between health and employment, the centre will also host Council employment advisers.

The advisers will provide support for residents looking to return to work, including help with CV writing, interview preparation, confidence building and coaching. The service aims to improve both health outcomes and employment opportunities by providing practical support in a familiar community setting.

Morley College for Skills is also ready to provide access to creative courses in the Village Square, to further enhance the holistic model of health, so much needed for positive health outcomes.

Dr Yasmin Razak, Principal GP at Golborne Canalside, said: "This is a fantastic new centre for our local community and one that has exceeded our expectations. The building is beautifully designed, creating a welcoming and peaceful environment for patients while providing modern facilities that allow us to expand the services we offer.

"We have increased our number of GPs to improve access to same day appointments and created space for a wider range of healthcare professionals, enabling us to care for more patients while maintaining the personalised approach that is so important to our practice.

"The opening of this centre is just the beginning. We will continue to develop new services and opportunities for residents in the years ahead. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and look forward to welcoming both existing and new patients through our doors."

Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council said:  "The opening of this new health centre demonstrates our commitment to delivering the facilities our residents need alongside new homes."

"We listened to the community and worked closely with NHS partners to create a facility that goes beyond traditional healthcare. From preventative health services and employment support to community activities and expanded GP provision, this centre will play a vital role in supporting residents' health and wellbeing for many years to come."

The new centre opens next week and will serve both existing and new patients from across North Kensington and the surrounding area.
