A new health centre and supermarket are due to open next year forming part of the Kelso Cochrane House new homes development in North Kensington.
We committed to redelivering a community space as part of the Kelso Cochrane development following feedback from the local community. Since then, we have been working closely with the NHS to make this vision a reality.
Wider range of health facilities on offer
The new state-of-the-art GP practice, Golborne Medical - West 10 GPs (Canalside) in Kensal Road, was named following consultation with patients and reflects its new location while retaining its established identity. Patients, both existing and new, will be able to access care in a bright, modern, comfortable, and confidential setting designed with patient input. This relocation is the culmination of a decade-long search for additional space, ensuring the practice’s growth and the provision of enhanced services.
The centre provides an expanded space with eight consulting rooms, doubling the capacity of the existing Golborne GP practice. This expansion allows for a multidisciplinary clinical team, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and health coaches to operate on-site. It also accommodates other NHS staff delivering specialist clinics and services for groups such as over-65s and mothers and babies. Additionally, it provides space for local counsellors, enabling patients to access vital mental health support closer to home.
The surgery will continue to provide medical training for students and resident doctors.
A brand new space for the community
The centre also features a “Village Square” community space, open to all local residents regardless of their registered GP. This space will host events, meetings, and classes promoting health and tackling social isolation. A public health initiative, in partnership with Meanwhile Gardens, will focus on heart health and common mental health problems, further demonstrating the centre’s commitment to community health creation.
The current medical centre premises, which have been in use since 1993, will be reorganised internally to provide improved facilities for the GP surgery remaining there.
New supermarket to remain rooted in local community
The new supermarket will be run by local businessman Rikesh Patel who has served the community from Buggsi supermarket on Bramley Road for the past 10 years.
Rikesh said: “My father built Buggsi into a trusted part of local life - a place where families across generations have shopped with confidence. I joined the family business with the aim of building on my father’s legacy. Since then, I have helped to modernise Buggsi Supermarket into a store that not only respects its traditions but also meets the needs of today’s customers.
We are now excited to bring this same vision to Kensal Road. Our goal is to create a supermarket that reflects the character of the area, provides for the daily needs of the community, and becomes a welcoming place where everyone feels at home.”
The store will continue to offer the best of a modern convenience store - variety, quality, and accessibility - while remaining rooted in the community.
Delivering much-needed facilities for local residents
Councillor Sof McVeigh, lead member for housing, said: “We are delighted that we are one step closer to opening both a brand-new health centre and supermarket.
These are a great example of how we are delivering much-needed infrastructure alongside new homes, ensuring that our residents have access to essential services close to where they live. By combining housing, healthcare and a convenience store in one development, we are creating a stronger, healthier community for generations to come.”
Dr Yasmin Razak, Principal GP at Golborne Medical, said “We are incredibly excited to be moving into our new home at Kelso Cochrane House. This state-of-the-art facility will not only allow us to expand our clinical team and enhance the care we offer to our patients, but it also reflects the valuable input we’ve had from our community along the way.
With more space, modern facilities, and a dedicated community area, we are confident this centre will become a real hub for health and wellbeing in North Kensington. We look forward to welcoming both existing and new patients into this bright and welcoming space.”
Kelso Cochrane House, which officially opened last year, offers 38 new homes and is home to 28 Council tenants with the remaining 10 homes for key workers.
These were the first Council homes to be built in the borough for decades.
