Jahed Rahman has been announced as the Council’s new permanent director of housing management and is due to join the authority in January.

Jahed, who has served as the director of housing at Haringey Council for the past three years, has over two decades of housing experience across London local government.

In his current role, Jahed oversees the housing directorate, managing 21,000 homes and leading a workforce of around 850 staff. This includes overseeing the Council’s landlord function, repairs service, building safety and compliance, tenancy management, homeownership services, income collection and financial inclusion and estate and caretaking services.

He is also responsible for supported housing for elderly residents and resident engagement, homeless services including rough sleeping, sheltered accommodation, housing related support for vulnerable adults, and lettings and allocations.

Prior to Haringey, he spent nine years at Hackney Council, where he led the housing directorate’s transformation programme following the insourcing of its ALMO (Arms-Length Management Organisation) and subsequently played a key role in the Council’s recovery efforts following a significant cyber-attack.

Jahed began his career in local government in 2002, working across a range of frontline housing roles including customer services contact centres, out-of-hours support, repairs, rents, homelessness, and leasehold services.

Speaking about his appointment, Jahed said: “I’m hugely excited to be joining Kensington and Chelsea. The borough has always been a vibrant place, rich in history, culture, and elegance.

“What drew me to Kensington and Chelsea is its strong commitment to improving social housing, through a balanced approach of refurbishment, new development, and forward-thinking policy reform. The Council’s major upgrades and pioneering carbon-neutral retrofits are setting new standards, delivering safer, more accessible, and more sustainable homes for tenants.

“The opportunity to help shape the next chapter in Kensington and Chelsea’s housing journey - a community whose strength continues to inspire both change and remembrance across the housing sector and one which has defined my own leadership of leading in social housing - is a responsibility I could not turn down.”

Lead member for housing, Cllr Sof McVeigh, said: "We’re excited to have Jahed on board. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. His enthusiasm for the role and his commitment to help us continue on our journey of improvement shone through. I look forward to the insight and energy he’ll bring to our housing and our residents in the borough.”
