Nominations open for Kensington and Chelsea Mayor’s Awards 2023

Published: Friday 18 November 2022

Nominations have now opened for the 2023 Kensington and Chelsea Mayor’s Awards. The awards recognise incredible people and extraordinary organisations that have gone above and beyond to serve the local community.

Perhaps they’ve made their mark working with a voluntary organisation or through some other community activity. If you know someone or an organisation that has made a significant difference to the lives of the borough’s residents, then now’s the time to share their story by nominating them for a Mayor’s Award.

This year, the public are invited to submit nominations in three categories:

  • Individual Contribution
  • Young Person
  • Local Community Organisation

Winners will be selected by a six-person judging panel comprising: Cllr David Lindsay, Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, The Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, Cllr Emma Dent Coad, The Leader of the Labour Group at Kensington and Chelsea Council, Michael Ashe, CEO of Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea, Angela Spence, CEO of Kensington and Chelsea Social Council and The new Youth Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea (to be elected in January 2023).

Nominations will close at 5.00pm on Monday 23 January 2023.

Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr David Lindsay said:
“The Mayor’s Awards are your chance to tell us about the hard work, dedication and selflessness of the borough’s community heroes and outstanding organisations.  I see the best of our community every day in my role as mayor so I know there are so many people and organisations worthy of nomination.

“I strongly urge everybody to put forward those that enrich our communities and make an outstanding contribution to local life to get the recognition they deserve.”

Last year, Mayor’s awards were presented to 26 winners.

Moktar Alqaderi, recognised in the Individual Contribution category for the support he has provided to young people said:

“I am truly humbled by this recognition and feel that such an immense honour will serve to motivate me to continue in the work that I do. I have always lived in the borough. I set-up my own social enterprise which was designed to help ex-offenders secure training and have continued serving the community over the last decade, motivated by the struggles of so many that I come across every day.”

Souad Talsi, founder of Al-Hasaniya Moroccan Women’s Project which received a Mayor’s Award in the Local Community Organisation category, said:
“The nomination itself is a recognition of the hard work invested by all concerned. The pandemic has been especially cruel and our work has made that difference in ensuring isolation isn't loneliness.”
