Kensington and Chelsea Council teams are adapting how they work during the extreme heat to keep the services residents rely on running as smoothly as possible.
As we move into a Red heat health alert, our staff have been out:

Protecting vulnerable residents
Our adult social care teams are contacting high-risk residents directly, care homes are monitoring indoor temperatures, and over 250 "cool kits" have been distributed to elderly residents and families with young children in North Kensington through community organisations.

Supporting rough sleepers
Outreach has been stepped up, with water, sun protection and cool-space advice being distributed, and hotel accommodation arranged where needed.

Looking after residents
Lift contractors and caretakers are on standby in higher-risk blocks, with water available at concierge offices and a cooling centre being assessed. Our housing teams are also contacting all our vulnerable tenants to ensure they are ok during this hot weather.

Keeping schools open
Settings are staying open, with flexible uniform and start-time arrangements, prioritising support for children and parents. A minority of schools are closing early as well. The schools team is in touch with SEND transport to ensure pupils are picked up on time, even when schools are closing earlier.

Ensuring safety in our parks and public spaces
Staff have been redeployed sensibly and water safety measures are in place. Signage is on entrances to playgrounds warning users that metal equipment will be very hot.
