The Council has confirmed a one-off increase to grant funding to support Notting Hill Carnival Limited in its preparations for this year’s event.
Organisers commissioned a safety review which made recommendations to improve crowd management. In order to meet these recommendations, organisers requested support from Government. However on 19 June 2025 Government confirmed they would not be providing any support to this year’s event.
Kensington and Chelsea Council, Westminster City Council and the Greater London Authority have increased their grant funding to ensure the safety recommendations can be met in 2025.
For this Council, that means an additional £232,000 in grant funding. The full decision is available on our website.
Deputy Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council Kim Taylor-Smith, said:
“Carnival attracts over a million people every year and the organisers have asked for more funding to keep participants safe. We are providing this additional funding alongside our partners to enhance crowd management and safety because Government have not yet indicated any support is forthcoming.
“Given the evolution of Carnival, it has grown so much since the first event on the streets of Notting Hill in 1966, we really do hope Government recognises its importance to the community and will lend its support for the future.
“Following Government funding proposals, this Council is now facing significant funding pressures over the next three years, with budget gaps of around £80 million. So we have to be really clear that this is additional funding for this year only.”
