Sale halted again on Notting Hill Police Station

Published: Tuesday 16 August 2022

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime has paused the sale process for Notting Hill Police Station.

After initially announcing an intention to sell last year, the Council worked with local partners to prepare a bid for the building, to give it a new lease of life as a community facility.

The Council’s bid includes:

  • a new GP surgery,
  • police front desk,
  • residential and respite care for adults with learning disabilities,
  • flexible community space,
  • affordable housing for key workers.

However the Greater London Authority have now confirmed that they will not consider the sale of the building until November at the earliest. Any future decision will take place after the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime have completed and agreed a wider estates strategy for their buildings across the capital.

Cllr Emma Will, lead member for community safety, culture and leisure, said:

“From the moment we were notified about the sale of Notting Hill police station, we have been serious about working with the community to protect the site.

“I’m hopeful that this latest delay means the Mayor’s Office is considering how the station could remain in community use rather than giving the building away to the highest bidder.

"We remain ready to make a fair offer for the building to provide much needed community space.”

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime notified the council of its intention to sell the building in July 2021. More than 2,500 people have signed a local petition, set up by the Kensington Society, to save the station.  Royalty Studios Police Station in Shepherd’s Bush is due to close in December. The building was put up for sale in 2020 with the Met no longer needing the building for operations.
