Older residents who prefer to avoid the bustle of Notting Hill Carnival will once again be able to take a break to the seaside thanks to an annual trip run by Kensington and Chelsea Council in partnership with Age UK.
The three-night break to Eastbourne is now fully booked and includes return coach travel, accommodation, insurance and support staff for 21 people who live directly on the Carnival route.
Residents enjoying the seaside break will return to North Kensington on Tuesday 26 August once Council street-cleaning teams have restored the area to normal following Carnival, which takes over the bank holiday weekend.
Cllr Kim Taylor Smith, Lead Member for Culture, said:
“Carnival is a wonderful celebration enjoyed by so many people, but we know that the sights, sounds and crowds are not for everyone. This trip offers a bit of calm for some of our older residents who would prefer not to be at the heart of the action.
“It’s just one of the ways we support our residents and support Carnival. This year our hard-working crews will be back out cleaning up on both days. To everyone attending this year’s Carnival – have a safe and enjoyable time.”
Tasio Cabello, Head of Community Engagement at Age UK Kensington and Chelsea, said:
“Age UK Kensington & Chelsea is proud to once again be partnering with Kensington and Chelsea Council to organise a special outing to provide a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the Notting Hill Carnival during the August Bank Holiday weekend.
“This year, 21 local residents will enjoy a relaxing break at a hotel in Eastbourne, offering a calm alternative to staying at home during the lively festivities. Here’s hoping for sunny skies and good weather to make the trip even more enjoyable!”
All residents living in the Carnival footprint have received a booklet containing information about road closures, cleaning, safety, travel and more.
The contents are also available via a dedicated online hub.
