Young people from Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster showcased their creativity at the Equal Voices Art Exhibition, launched at Kensington Town Hall on Thursday 4 June.

The exhibition is the result of months of work by Equal Voices, a SEND youth participation group bringing together students from four local special schools. Through workshops and creative sessions, the group explored an important question: what young people with SEND need to be happy, healthy and independent.

Participants developed new skills including clay tiling and mono-printing and chose to present their work in a public exhibition. The display features artwork, photos and personal reflections, highlighting the importance of listening to young people’s voices.

At the launch, young people also gave inspiring speeches about their experiences at a reception upstairs in Kensington Town Hall.

Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Family and Children, reflected that: “It’s marvellous to see the creativity that this project has inspired in the young people in the SEND participation group, they have clearly relished having their voices heard and choosing which art skills they would learn, and the quality of their artworks speaks for itself. A truly inspiring project!”

The art exhibition is on display at Kensington Town Hall throughout June and July, in the main civic reception.
