Kensington and Chelsea is celebrating its older residents at this year’s Silver Sunday – a packed programme of events for the over-65s taking place from Sunday 2 to Saturday 8 October.

A total of 19 organisations and community groups are hosting 35 sessions offering older people the chance to meet new people, try your hand at arts and crafts, take part in some exercise or learn a skill and connect with their local communities and the generations around them.

Among this year’s highlights is a tour of the Royal Albert Hall, a danceathon at Chelsea Theatre, exploring Albertopolis and tea and a tour at Lords.

There are some online activities for those who are less able to get out and about or prefer to join in via Zoom. Open Age also offers Phone Groups for those less able to get out and about.

Welcoming this year’s activities Cllr Sarah Addenbrooke, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said:

“The last couple of years has been extremely hard for many people, and some of our older residents may have been feeling isolated, not being able to meet friends or family.

“Silver Sunday can help you meet new people, find a new hobby, or even discover more about a borough landmark you may have walked past without really investigating. I’d encourage everyone who can, to get involved this Silver Sunday and enjoy exploring what we have on our doorstep.”

Open Age works in partnership with the Kensington and Chelsea Council to deliver Silver Sunday. They also deliver an annual programme of more than 380 activities in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster for people aged 50+ and membership is free.
