The Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea was due to host the annual Diplomatic Reception next week. The Mayor invites representatives from the embassies based in the borough, representing over 40 countries from across the world. It is an event which has a genuine purpose of bringing different communities together.
However, I have heard a range of concerns from our community about holding the event at the moment. I am therefore worried that it may have the opposite effect.
As the Leader of this Council, I must listen to our residents and ensure everyone's safety and dignity, so have taken the decision to no longer hold the reception.
