We are sorry to announce the unexpected death of Councillor Malcolm Spalding.
Responding to the news, Councillor Gerard Hargreaves, Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, said:
“We are all in a state of shock and sadness. I am sure I speak for everyone who knew him when I say we send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Malcolm has been a wonderful colleague and will be missed by councillors across the political divide and by residents. He worked tirelessly for his constituents and the causes he believed in.”
Councillor Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, added:
"It's incredibly sad and we are thinking of his friends and family at this time. He was everything a local councillor should be, dedicating his time to serving the community in Earl’s Court, as well as the wider borough every single day. He will be missed by all of us."
Councillor Spalding was elected as a Conservative councillor to represent Earl’s Court ward in May 2014, and was currently a member of a number of committees including the Adult Social Care and Health and the Planning Applications. In the past he had been chairman of the Environment Select Committee and the Public Realm Scrutiny Committee.
He was committed to his ward and campaigned on the challenges and opportunities the redevelopment of the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre offered.
Malcolm Spalding lived in Kensington and Chelsea for over 50 years. He was commissioned in the Royal Navy and later became Principal of the London Electronics College for 30 years. He was a vice-President of K&C Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Earl’s Court Society.
