Update on progress on the Council’s Inquiry commitments

Published: Wednesday 9 July 2025

Nearly 40 bereaved, survivors and residents have expressed an interest in joining a new group to hold the Council to account over its Grenfell Inquiry commitments.

Thirty-seven people expressed an interest in sitting on the Independent Advisory Panel, which will be established later this year and will help to shape the upcoming external review of culture at the Council.
Recruitment to the panel is one of several updates on the progress we have made against our 45 Inquiry commitments due to be discussed by the Leadership Team at its July meeting on Wednesday 9 July.

Other progress includes the launch of a Fairer Action Plan, which outlines 18 actions to tackle inequality and deprivation, focusing on areas such as health, employment, and education, and the rolling out of surgeries to ensure regular contact between lead members, senior officers, ward councillors, and local residents – including through the Your Council Comes to You events.

A separate tracking tool has been developed to measure the Leadership Team’s visibility and contact with communities across the borough.

The latest developments build on earlier progress first reported publicly in May, including the extension of the ban on Grenfell-linked contractors, strengthened building control procedures, and enhanced emergency preparedness training.

An action tracker showing progress against the commitments will be published on the Council website later this month. Further engagement with bereaved, survivors and residents will take place in the autumn ahead of the next update towards the end of the year.
